Elvira's final performance at Knott's Berry Farm in California will be on Halloween, the performer, whose real name is Cassandra Peterson, announced.
The 66-year-old performer told The Gazette she would be moving on to other projects and that the live shows took too much time from the other things she wanted to do.
Peterson said she wanted to finish her autobiography and possibly work on one or two television projects.
"And maybe in between there, have a life," she said to the Gazette.
Peterson has been a performer for almost five decades, spending 21 of the last 36 Halloweens performing live at Knott's.
Peterson worked many different entertainment-related jobs in her teens and 20s, finally getting her break as a comedic host for "Movie Macabre," a local TV horror movie showcase show. Within months she had become a national cult celebrity figure and was making celebrity appearances, especially around Halloween, The Gazette reported.
Despite her original fans getting older, Peterson has managed to attract plenty of new, younger fans and keep her appeal going.
"I wanted to go out on top when I looked really good and the show looks really good," she said to the Orange County Register in an interview earlier this month.
Peterson also plans to expand her clothing line and jewelry brand in retirement, offering lingerie and new Elvira-related merchandise like Christmas ornaments and a slot machine, OCR reported. Peterson may also do shorter-term live events and appearances even if she doesn't appear at Knott's Berry Farm in the future.
"I'm going to really miss being at Knott's," Peterson said to OCR. "It's going to be sad to not see a lot of the fans and I know they really like me because having done the meet-and-greets they tell me how much I mean to them."
