"Saved By the Bell" star Dustin Diamond has been diagnosed with stage four cancer. A rep confirmed the news on Thursday to Entertainment Weekly, explaining that the cancer was "serious" and that the actor was undergoing testing and treatment at a Florida hospital.
"He's undergoing chemo so he will be there at least another week and then we will figure out when he gets to come home," Diamond's rep said. "By next week, we'll have a much better understanding of the severity of his condition and what treatments he will need so that he's comfortable."
Earlier this week it emerged that Diamond had been hospitalized after he began to experience pain throughout his body. He was also suffering from shingles and had discovered a lump in his throat, which led to the cancer diagnosis.
At the time of his hospitalization, Diamond was "fading in and out, feeling sleepy and tired," his rep told Entertainment Weekly. The star is now feeling "fine," he added.
Diamond's former co-stars, Mario Lopez and Tiffani Thiessen, have shown their support upon learning of his diagnosis.
"I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he’ll overcome this," Lopez wrote in an Instagram post that included two photos of the pair together- one a throwback to their days in "Saved By The Bell" and one that was taken more recently. "Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery. God Bless," Lopez added.
Meanwhile, Thiessen shared a photo of Diamond to her Instagram stories, writing "Thinking of you Dustin."
