Dems Seek Political Advantage from Auto Bailout

While many believers in free markets opposed the bailout of General Motors and Chrysler begun under President George W. Bush and expanded by President Barack Obama, Democrats intend to use the bailout to help their election prospects next year, Politico reports.

obama, auto, bailoutBoth companies have seen a sharp rebound in their performance since the bailout, and it looks like the government’s losses from its investments in the companies will be very small.

Democrats already are looking for ways to jump on top of Republican presidential candidates who opposed the bailout in the crucial battleground states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Obama needs help in regaining the support of blue collar voters in these states who were upset with his policies on issues such as healthcare reform and the fiscal stimulus program.
