Criss Angel completed the Houdini Death Escape on Tuesday, hanging upsidedown in a straitjacket with a 50-pound weight hanging from a noose around his neck at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
The stunt was "hugely successful,"
Foxwoods COO Felix Rappaport told the Las Vegas Sun. "We had an enthusiastic crowd of over 10,000 people watching. They were on rooftops, patios, porches, and knolls. Criss was fabulous from start to finish. It was an elaborate and mind-blowing stunt."
Angel is the only person to duplicate the Houdini stunt, which he attempted but failed last year in Times Square, the newspaper reported. The botched attempt forced the illusionist to have surgery and undergo months of rehab therapy for a torn shoulder and biceps.
"It’s really, really dangerous and extreme," Angel told the Las Vegas Sun. "As real as it gets and totally legitimate. It could have killed me. If I had failed, my career could have been over. This was right up there in all the crazy things I’ve done. I could not afford to damage my body any further."
The stunt preceded Angel's "Mindfreak Live" touring show, which will run Thursday through Saturday at Foxwoods. It is Angel’s first show on the road since he began regularly performing at The Luxor in Las Vegas
six years ago, according to The Republican.
Mixed martial arts fighter Randy Couture helped Angel prepare for the Veteran’s Day stunt, which the magician dedicated to all veterans, past and present.
He later posted a thank you to his fans on Twitter.
