Nik Wallenda successfully walked across the Grand Canyon on a two inch-wide tightrope on live television Sunday night with no safety nets or harnesses as Twitter users live-blogged the unbelievable feat.

A seventh-generation member of the "Flying Wallendas" family of acrobats, the 34-year-old Sarasota, Fla., resident teamed up with the Discovery Channel for the history-making stunt. Outfitted with a balancing pole and a microphone, Nik Wallenda walked across the Grand Canyon on a quarter mile-long tightrop suspended 1,500-feet above the Little Colorado River Gorge.

His biggest obstacle was the unpredictable wind, which forced him to crouch down to the wire at one point.

"It was way more windy, and it took every bit of me to stay focused the entire time," he told reporters after the walk.

Twitter was ablaze Sunday as Wallenda's Skywire special aired live on Discovery.
