Republicans rallied outside the state Capitol in Denver Wednesday, pushing for less state spending while some Democrats called for tax increases, the
Denver Post reported Thursday. House Speaker Fran McNulty, a Highlands Ranch Republican, joined GOP grass-roots organizers, radio talk-show hosts, and other Republican legislators for the event.
A group called Spending Less Now sponsored the event, where participants toted signs proclaiming “No more taxes” and “Taxed enough already.”
"Republicans will not raise taxes on Colorado families and small business," McNulty said as the crowd cheered. "The bottom line is: Colorado cannot afford the out-of-control spending seen the last four years."
Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper proposed a state spending plan last month with deep cuts to K-12 education, higher education and state parks. McNulty described the budget proposal as the most responsible one he's seen in the past five years.
