Chris Christie Heckler Told by Guv: 'Sit Down and Shut Up'

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told a heckler at a recent event to "sit down and shut up." He didn't and eventually was removed.

The heckler, later identified by ABC News as Democrat and former Asbury Park councilman Jim Keady, stood up in front of the podium at a Wednesday event commemorating the second anniversary of Hurricane Sandy in Belmar, New Jersey. He held up a sign that read, "Get Sandy Families Back in Their Home - Finish the Job."

"I'll be more than happy to have a debate with you anytime you like, guy, because somebody like you doesn't know a damn thing about what you're talking about except to stand up and show off when the cameras are here," Christie told the man after it became clear he wasn't going to leave quietly.

"I've been here when the cameras aren't here, buddy, and done the work ... Turn around, get your fifteen minutes of fame, and then, maybe, take your jacket off, roll up your sleeves, and do something for the people of this state," he advised.

In a video of the incident, Keady says his piece to the governor, but it was inaudible on the tape. Growing frustrated with the man, Christie finally told him to simply shut up.

Bloomberg News spoke with Keady after the event. His main concern: a $1.1 billion fund created for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, only 20 percent of which has actually been used, he said.

"Christie's administration is sitting on $800 million of taxpayer money that was supposed to go to our fellow New Jerseyans," Keady said. After the storm, Keady said he took a month off of work to volunteer in Belmar, helping clean up in the aftermath of the storm.

"They trusted me with one of their borrowed dump trucks and I was running clean up crews all over town," Keady said. "I wanna know how many crawl spaces the governor was in, cleaning up. But he got his photo-op in Belmar."

After Keady was removed, the governor regained his composure.

"I still have plenty of Jersey in me, so when it comes to having a little 'back and forth' I will not hesitate to have a little 'back and forth,'" said Christie.
