Ex-Republican Charlie Crist downplayed, without denying outright, the whispers around Florida that he might become a Democrat, the
Post on Politics blog of the Palm Beach Post reports. Rumors are spreading that former GOP Gov. Crist, who lost badly as an independent Senate candidate, might keep moving left in his party affiliation.
“I’ve heard a lot of that speculation,” Crist said this week. “But I’m paying all my attention to [wife] Carole and the rest of my family. And working hard for the people at [Orlando-based trial lawyer firm] Morgan & Morgan. I’m enjoying being an independent, it’s a great place to be.”
Crist also said he doubted he would run against U.S. Rep. Bill Young, the longest-serving Republican in Congress, who represents the district where Crist lives. Democrats are attacking Young, 80, in radio ads for his vote to reduce Medicare spending.
