Cantor: Ryan Should Run for President

By    |   Monday, 23 May 2011 05:06 PM EDT

Hand-wringing continues among Republicans who are displeased with the party’s current crop of presidential candidates. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said Monday that his buddy Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Budget Committee, should run, The Hill reports.

Asked whether the author of the House GOP’s budget plan should enter the race, Cantor said, “Sure, Paul’s about real leadership. I think that that’s what this public so desperately wants to do right now. They don’t want to see individuals that just dismiss problems that we can just sweep under the rug.”

Some others have urged Ryan to consider a presidential bid, too. But on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, he repeatedly promised he won’t run this time around, though he left open the option for a future year.
