Americans by a two- to-one margin appear to support the Obama administration’s call for allowing the so-called Bush era tax cuts to expire for income earners making more than $250,000 a year, according to a new poll.
Similar results — 44 percent to 21 percent — were found when the survey participants were asked if a tax increase on the wealthy would make the system fairer.
The poll of 1,015 adults taken July 12-15 found, not surprisingly, 64 percent of Democrats believe that raising taxes on higher-income individuals will improve the economy, while only 27 percent of Republicans believe that.
Most of the survey respondents — 58 percent — also correctly identified President Barack Obama over Mitt Romney as the presidential candidate leading the call for a tax hike on wealthy individuals.
