Former "Dancing With the Stars" cohost Brooke Burke-Charvet blamed a faulty steering wheel after she crashed her Maserati into a fence Wednesday morning in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas, Calif.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Burke-Charvet, 42, drove the luxury vehicle through a chain link fence, causing minor damage to the car. Authorities also said she passed a precautionary field sobriety test on the scene.

Burke-Charvet explained the accident in a series of tweets and accused TMZ of blowing the wreck out of proportion.

In February, Burke-Charvet was cut as cohost of the popular competitive reality show "Dancing With the Stars," and replaced by sportscaster Erin Andrews

"We can confirm that Brooke Burke-Charvet will not be joining us next season," ABC said in a statement at the time of her departure, according to People magazine. "She's been a wonderful part of the 'Dancing With the Stars' family since her triumphant win in season seven and will unquestionably be missed by our entire team. We'd like to thank Brooke for her years of great service."

Burke-Charvet is reportedly slated to appear in two upcoming episodes of the ABC Family comedy series "Melissa & Joey," starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence. She'll play Felicia, Joey's ex-girlfriend, on the show.
