Botox and other “injectables” have shriveled the market for the traditional facelift, Allure magazine reported, and although breast enhancement is as popular as ever, invasive plastic surgery seems to be on the outs and minimally invasive is in.

An annual survey compiled by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which analyzed plastic surgery trends and listed what procedures were most popular in 2017, showed an uptick in minimally invasive procedures among the 17.5 million total cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S., a two percent increase over 2016.

The 7.23 million botulinum toxin type A procedures performed were also two percent over 2016.

According to the survey, Botox took top spot as the preferred minimally invasive treatment ahead of other popular procedures such as fillers, chemical peels, laser hair removals and microdermabrasion.

“As more people realize how effective Botox is and as more people also become more open to the idea of these treatments, I think its use will continue to increase throughout 2018,” said Daniel Maman, a board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City, per Allure. “I do not think that Botox will ever be eclipsed by other injectables.”

"We are seeing more patients trying Botox for the first time, including more male patients and patients at both ends of the age spectrum," Melissa Doft, another board-certified plastic surgeon in New York City, told Allure. "The increase in popularity has encouraged discussion around the topic and therefore has decreased taboo."

While the trend may be to avoid surgical procedures, the survey found an 11 percent spike in breast reduction surgeries in 2017.

“Breast reductions are consistently reported as one of the highest patient satisfaction procedures because it positively affects a woman’s quality of life,” said ASPS President Jeffrey E. Janis, per USA Today. “It addresses both functional and aesthetic concerns.”

Other popular surgical procedures included liposuction, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery and tummy tucks.

There also has been an increase in innovative procedures such as nipple plastic surgery, butt injectables and non-surgical nose jobs.
