Bono recently sang the praises of one the Democrats’ favorite targets of derision, namely former President George W. Bush.
The U2 front man and singer appeared on “The Daily Show” Wednesday night, a venue from which host Jon Stewart has, in the past, repeatedly flung comedic barbs at Bush.
Bono was on Stewart’s show to talk about World AIDS Day and discuss the potential for eliminating the deadly disease.
“Even as it [an AIDS cure] comes out of my mouth it is kind of amazing,” Bono said.
Perhaps equally astonishing were the following words Bono uttered next to a stunned Stewart: “We’re hoping very much that President Obama is going to follow through on what President Bush did.”
Taken aback, Stewart grimaced as he listened. Then the Comedy Central host said, “Woo, let me just swirl that around in my mouth.”
“I know that’s hard for you to accept,” Bono replied while patting Stewart’s hand.
Bono then made some more unexpected comparisons.
“It is amazing. People like John Kerry worked for this. Hillary Clinton, and eventually President Clinton did some extraordinary stuff renegotiating the prices of these very expensive drugs down. But George Bush kind of knocked it out of the park,” Bono affirmed.
