Bonnie Raitt has canceled the first leg of her tour with James Taylor due to an unspecified “medical situation” that requires her to have surgery.
The issue was revealed during a routine annual physical, according to a Monday post on Raitt’s Facebook page. “Following her annual physical, it was determined she needs to schedule some surgery soon. The prognosis is good and a full recovery is expected,” the post read.
“I’m deeply sorry to have to disappoint my fans, James and colleagues with these cancellations. I was so looking forward to our tour, but I’m very grateful that the doctors feel this can be taken care of with surgery. I’m feeling strong and am in great hands with my wonderful team,” Raitt said in the post.
Raitt, 68, will miss the first 17 dates of the tour, which begins May 8 in Jacksonville, Florida. The dates will now feature two sets by James Taylor & His All-Star Band with an intermission between, according to Taylor's website. Taylor also said Raitt would be “constantly in our hearts and minds until we see you in June.”
Sheryl Crow will join Taylor for a few of the tour dates in Raitt’s place.
Raitt said she expects to return for the second half of the U.S. tour in June and the European tour in July. She asked for privacy and “space to heal” in the Facebook post.
Ticket buyers who want a refund can get one from the ticket purchase location.
Raitt’s fans took to Twitter to wish her well.
