Dr. Ben Carson is slated to speak next month as part of Wofford College's Commander-in-Chief Presidential Forum series in South Carolina, where the man who's virtually tied with Donald Trump as Republican frontrunner is expected to cover national security and foreign policy.
The event will take place at Wofford's Leonard Auditorium at
7 p.m. on Dec. 2, according to a press release.
All major Republican presidential candidates were invited to take part in the Commander-in-Chief Presidential Forum series, which is part of the school's Hipp Lecture Series on International Affairs and National Security, the release said.
According to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll, Carson is currently the most popular Republican presidential candidate among GOP voters and among all registered voters.
In popularity among Republicans, Carson leads Trump, 71 percent to 69, and also outpolls other candidates, including Sen. Marco Rubio (58 percent), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (56 percent), and Sen. Ted Cruz (53 percent).
A Monmouth University poll released Monday shows that Carson also holds a slight lead in South Carolina, where the Wofford forum is being held.
According to CNN, the retired pediatric neurosurgeon has the support of 28 percent of likely GOP voters in South Carolina as compared to Trump's 27 percent.
