A glitch in Apple's iOS 11 update is driving texters and others crazy by changing lowercase "i" to gibberish through the autocorrect function.
Instead of changing the lowercase letter to a capital one, as usually happens, it is instead being replaced by a capital "A" or a question mark inside a box and exclamation points, according to the New York Daily News.
The glitch affects iOS 11 users from iPhone 6 and up, not just new phone users, the Daily News reported. iOS update 11.1 is said to be responsible for the glitch, but it has also been affecting some phones still on iOS 11.0.3, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Apple has not commented on why the bug only impacts some users, but said it is working to fix the problem.
"A fix will be released very soon," an Apple spokeswoman said, WSJ reported.
In the meanwhile, users can go into the keyboard settings of their phone and manually replace the gibberish with the capital "I" and stop the gibberish from persisting.
Some noted the irony of the situation, since Apple has used the lowercase "i" in unique ways to refer to its phone and tablet products, as well as related software. Users also commented on the frustration of the glitch and how it would affect the most self-absorbed phone users more profoundly, WSJ reported.
Twitter users had some complaints and suggestions regarding the glitch.
