The iOS 11 update for Apple iPhones and iPads will offer a one-handed keyboard mode for users of the Plus-sized phones and other updates.
The update, which became available to the public for beta testing recently, is more focused on changes for the iPad, according to TechCrunch, but is also offering a keyboard that people can use with one hand on the larger phones.
The keyboard can be crunched to the left or right side of the screen, making it easier to reach all the keys with one hand, according to Business Insider reported. The larger phones have screens too wide for most people with normal-sized hands to reach.
Changes for the iPad include better switching between apps, the ability to use multiple apps in a split screen mode, and being able to drag and drop app files from one app to another.
TechCrunch said that Apple “has completely changed the user experience” and suggested that people who had abandoned their iPads because they were too hard to use go back and give them another try with iOS 11.
The new update features a “dock” at the bottom of the screen that can hold up to a dozen apps so that they can be accessed easily, similar to the feature on the new MacBooks, TechCrunch reported. There is a new Files app that can support Dropbox, and iCloud Drive, as well as an annotation feature to share photos without saving them into your photo library permanently.
There are also improvements to the camera and Photos app that give it more of a 3-D feel, along with many more smaller improvements that make iOS 11 the most comprehensive update in quite some time, TechCrunch reported.
Twitter users felt that the update was “buggy” but that may be expected with Beta. Others applauded the advancements.
