Video of a cop putting Anthony Wall, dressed in prom clothes, in a chokehold at a North Carolina Waffle House restaurant is being investigated.
Twenty-two-year-old Anthony Wall was detained and put in a chokehold after getting into an argument with wait staff members after taking his 16-year-old sister to prom Saturday, ABC11 reported.
“I was pretty much trying to scream for air and trying to breathe because he was holding my throat and that’s when I got aggressive with him because you are choking me,” Wall told ABC11 reported.
Wall was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He told the news station he takes responsibility for the argument with Waffle House employees, but said the cop’s actions in arresting him were not justified.
The video of the arrest was posted to Facebook and has been viewed and shared thousands of times.
Police Chief Eric Southerland said in a statement to ABC 11, “We are currently investigating the whole incident, interviewing witnesses and gathering additional video. ... Once the investigation is complete and the District Attorney has had a chance to review the case we will provide the public with an update on the findings.”
“Your hands should never have been around my neck like that if my hands were in the air,” Wall told ABC11.
Police didn’t release the name of the officer in the video, saying the matter is still under investigation.
