Ant Anstead is opening up about his split from his wife Christina. The pair parted ways earlier this year, after less than two years of marriage, and in an interview with People, the reality TV star got candid about their breakup.

"I think everybody knows this was not my decision. It really hit me hard," he said. "If you ask anybody that knows me properly, they know that I give myself fully. I had so much love for her."

Christina announced the split in September on Instagram.

"Ant and I have made the difficult decision to separate," she captioned a photo of the couple walking into the sunset on the beach. "We are grateful for each other and as always, our children will remain our priority. We appreciate your support and ask for privacy for us and our family as we navigate the future."

Ant also shared the news on his Instagram, stating that he had remained silent while holding on to hope.

"I never gave up on us," he captioned a black and white photo of himself and Christina smiling into the camera. "I pray Christina’s decision brings her happiness."

Speaking with People, the "Wheeler Dealers" star admitted he was in a dark place in the weeks following the split but eventually realized he needed to move on. Ant signed up for an online "breakup recovery" course as well as a three-day faith-based retreat which helped him realize he was in control of his own healing.

Now he is working through the grief and although there are days that are harder than others, he is focusing on the positives.

"It really is a process," he said. "And the thing about healing is sometimes you feel like you’re making daily progress, and then, from nowhere, your legs get taken out, and you feel like you start again. But I'm certainly making steps towards healing, even if it's really slow."
