Alison Greenspan, who produced the beloved 2005 film "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," has died at 48 after a long battle with cancer.
Her husband Jason Michaels confirmed the news, explaining that she was surrounded by family when she died, according to The Sun.
Born in Washington, D.C., Greenspan began her career working at CAA as an assistant to Jack Rapke after graduating in 1994 from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in American History and Political Science. She followed Rapke when he broke away from the CAA in 1998 to form his own production company, ImageMovers, where Greenspan worked as an executive producer.
She later moved on to fill the role of an executive at Denise Di Novi’s production company, where she worked on various projects including the 2002 film "A Walk To Remember," which was based on the Nicholas Sparks novel and starred Mandy Moore and Shane West.
Greenspan also worked on "If I Stay," "Ramona and Beezus," "Monte Carlo," and "Catwoman," as well as the memorable film "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," which tells the story of four friends who find a pair of pants that magically fits them all perfectly. In a bid to stay connected over the summer, when they all go their separate ways, they pass the pair of pants around to one another, hoping that it brings them joy and adventure.
"Alison was simply the best, at everything," Di Novi said, according to Variety.
"A brilliant, tenacious producer. A fiercely loyal and generous friend. The most tender, loving wife and mother. I was blessed to work with her by my side for so many years; she is loved by so many and will be remembered as a shining light in this business."
In more recent years, Greenspan worked as a partner at Doug Robinson Productions, where she served as executive producer and developer for the first two seasons of the legal drama series "For Life," where she continued to work until shortly before her death.
"Alison was a tenacious producer, who loved nurturing and protecting the artists she worked with," said Robinson.
"The only thing she loved more than her work was her family, her husband Jason and her beautiful son Stevie. I consider myself lucky to have had her as my friend and partner…she will be missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to have known her."
