Adam Sandler took a knee, Claire Foy's knee to be specific, during an interview on Friday's "Graham Norton Show," and the interaction drew backlash on social media, The Daily Mail noted.
It first began when Sandler, who was animatedly talking to the show host, placed his hand on Foy's knee.
The actress moved his hand away and, in comical retaliation, Sandler put his hand back on her knee. The second time, Foy just awkwardly patted his hand and smiled.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism as viewers took to social media to air their views.
"Emma Thompson and Clare Foy looking uncomfortable with Adam Sandler grabbing their legs on #GrahamNorton but no comment. This is not OK," posted one Twitter user."
"Adam Sandler has no social awareness of how awkward he seemed to be making Emma Thompson and Claire Foy #stoptouching #GrahamNorton," another Twitter user wrote.
In response to the criticism, Foy has said she was not offended or made to feel uncomfortable by the act, Gossip Cop reported.
A spokesperson for Foy told the celebrity gossip site, "We don't believe anything was meant by Adam's gesture and no offense was caused to Claire."
Meanwhile, Sandler's rep assured that the act was nothing more than a "friendly gesture."
