A Virginia man's 911 call to report a foul during a pickup basketball game at the gym is going viral.
The incident reportedly happened Monday evening at an LA Fitness gym at Dulles Town Center in Sterling, Virginia.
Twitter user TrapMoneyBenny tweeted, “Today for the first time in my life...I experienced someone call the police because they got fouled hard in basketball.”
In less than 48 hours, the post went viral, getting retweeted nearly 34,000 times and liked more than 91,000 times — all this from a Twitter account with just 1,261 followers.
TrapMoneyBenny, who witnessed the foul and 911 call but didn't want his name released, told Fox 5 DC the man who called the police is a gym regular.
“No punches were thrown. Nothing,” he told the station. “It wasn’t malicious. No hits to the face or anything like that.”
According to the witness, the man who made the call was over-the-top upset and told the other player he was calling the police.
"I thought he was joking," the witness told Fox 5. "I thought he was being extra."
A second witness posted a video in which he asks one of the officers if he ever had to respond to a basketball foul.
"This is my first basketball foul," the deputy replies. He added that he thought he’d been called out for a fight.
Neither player wanted to press charges and the game resumed after the interruption.
“Everyone kept playing. That’s what’s so bizarre about the whole situation — like why did it have to be that serious?” the witness told the news station.
He added that although one player was white and the other black, race didn’t enter into the dispute.
“You could tell it was strictly basketball," he told Fox 5. "There were no racial undertones or anything like that."
