The Los Angeles Police Department has released surveillance camera photos of two suspects whose attempted robbery of a 7-Eleven convenience store clerk in Highland Park Sunday turned deadly.
Police told the
Los Angeles Times Tuesday that Gonzalo Perez, 38, was shot and killed by two suspects posing a customers at the store.
"The victim walked to the register to assist the suspects," authorities said,
according a Los Angeles Police blog. "Suspect 1 jumped over the counter and produced a handgun, demanding money from the cash register."

Perez tried to leave but one of the suspects shot him, said police.
Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch reported that when police arrived on the scene after receiving a call about 10:20 p.m., "they found Perez lying on the floor with what appeared to be a gunshot wound."
Police said the two suspects then left the store, but a vehicle was not seen by surveillance cameras.
Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics transported Perez to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
"Despite life-saving efforts, Perez died as a result of his injuries a short time later," Patch wrote, according to the LAPD statement.
KABC-TV reported that Perez had a five-year-old daughter. His cousin, Virginia McCowan, told KABC that he was working two jobs to help where he supported his family in Mexico and daughter in Los Angeles.

The first suspect was listed as an African-American male, 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, wearing a black hooded jacket, blue jeans short pants, black and white shoes and red gloved, according to the Los Angeles Times. The second suspect was also a black male, 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweater, blue jeans and black and white shoes, per the Times.
