It’s been obvious for months that "Wufluenza" lockdowns have been good for government bureaucrats. These "public servants" haven’t missed a single paycheck, while millions of taxpayers have lost their jobs and been thrown on the tender mercies of the unemployment bureau.
Many government bureaucrats are now working from home, far from the prying eyes of supervisors, and others are in the office but spared the inconveniences of dealing with the public, because the public is banned from those same offices.
Now we learn in California government bureaucrats have not only been getting their paychecks while taxpayers do without, the bureaucrats have also been getting their workouts while the rest of us are being conscripted into the couch potato army.
The Washington Examiner reports, "Gyms within government buildings in San Francisco have been open for months, despite privately owned establishments being ordered to close due to the coronavirus.
"The gyms that have been open for government employees include those for police officers, judges, lawyers, bailiffs, and paralegals, according to the report. One such gym, the Hall of Justice gym, has been open since July 1."
It’s now dawning on Dave Karraker, who owns MX3 Fitness in the Castro district of San Francisco, that there are evidently two sets of rules when the public is under the merciless control of the "Flustapo": A generous wink-and-a-nod flexible set of rules for the politically powerful and another set of unyielding mandates for the little people who pay the salaries of the politically connected.
"It just demonstrates that there seems to be some kind of a double standard between what city employees are allowed to do and what the residents of San Francisco are allowed to do," Karraker observed.
That’s putting it mildly.
Recall that last week Speaker of the U.S. House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., waltzed into a closed-to-the-public hair styling salon, also in San Francisco, and got her hair done, all the while without wearing the mask that’s mandatory for the rest of us.
If Nancy can get her hair done, then don’t be surprised when city employees get their muscles done.
Karraker is not a particularly wise enemy for San Francico’s overlords to make.
He’s able to take existing evidence and connect the dots. The resulting picture tells him the entire no-gyms-for-you regime is scientifically and morally bankrupt.
"What the city has unwillingly done is created this great case study that says that working out indoors is actually safe," said Karraker. "So, at this point, we’re just demanding that they allow us to have the same workout privileges for the citizens of San Francisco that the employees of San Francisco have."
Healthy people — the kind who use gyms — really don’t have much to fear from the "Wuflu," in spite of what the pandemic panic propagandists tell us.
