In April, the U.S. Air Force awarded Lockheed Martin Corp., the Bethesda, Md.-based defense contractor, a $928 million contract to develop an air-launched hypersonic cruise missile system.
Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek said it was intended “accelerate hypersonics research and development… as quickly as possible.”
