Florida Supreme Court Leaked Ruling

Friday, 08 December 2000 12:00 AM EST

Here's what I learned from another Florida lawyer who is a Democrat: He was alerted at 11 a.m. today that he should get on a plane from Miami and head to Tallahassee in order to be involved in hand recounts of ballots.

How in the world would he know he was supposed to do that unless someone within the bowels of the Florida Supreme Court leaked what the ruling, which came down five hours later, was going to be?

This is yet more evidence of impropriety by the Florida Supreme Court: a heads-up to partisans to take steps to help deliver the state to Al Gore.

What is a Republican to do? I have called the Miami-Dade County GOP offering to help as an observer at any recounting location. But the high court didn't tell me to do this. I heard it on the news.
