President Donald Trump should apologize to former President Barack Obama for accusing him of ordering a wiretap on then-candidate Trump during the 2016 election, Rep. Will Hurd said Sunday.
In an interview on ABC News' "This Week," the Texas Republican, a member of the House Select Committee on Intelligence that's holding a hearing with FBI Director James Comey on Monday, said, "It never hurts to say you're sorry."
He urged an apology not just to Obama, however, "but also to the [United Kingdom] for the … intimation that the U.K. was involved in this as well… It takes away from the rest of [Trump's] agenda."
The former CIA agent also said Russia's meddling in the 2016 election ""will go down in the history of Mother Russia as the great covert action – not because Trump won, but because it created a wedge, real or perceived, between the White House, the intelligence community, and the American public."
Hurd also batted back suggestions of partisan "Deep State" workings against Trump.
"The men and the women in the CIA, they do their job regardless of who is in the White House," he said. "Same with the [National Security Agency], same with the FBI."
