The White House may mark the National Day of Prayer with an executive order on religious liberty, according to a report.
Politico reports that President Donald Trump's team is finalizing the order that's sure to be controversial. Similar directives signed at the state level, including one by Vice President Mike Pence when he was governor of Indiana, have created uproar from the left.
Trump's order could be signed as soon as Thursday.
The Nation obtained a draft of the order in the days following Trump's inauguration. Since then, Politico reports that Pence and others have been working to tune it.
One conservative who saw the current draft told Politico, "the language is very, very strong."
The ACLU got wind of the Politico report and threatened legal action.
Democrats have complained that religious liberty laws give business owners the right to discriminate against people. Republicans and other supporters say they prevent Americans from violating their own religious beliefs.
