Even though CNN has said it will not attend the White House Christmas party this year, an administration official has sent invites to the celebration to more than a dozen of the network's off-camera personnel, The Washington Post reports.
The Post, attributing its information to a "CNN source," said deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters was behind the invitations.
Walters, in her invites, reportedly said: "The president wanted you to know that while the rest of CNN will not be attending the Christmas reception, if you're able to, he is still happy to have you — the cameramen, sound, and other technicians, who work so tirelessly behind the scenes — to come participate."
The president has been locked in a growing feud with the news network, Politico noted.
Before the recent invites were received, a spokesperson for the network said: "CNN will not be attending this year's White House Christmas party. In light of the president's continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN, we do not feel it is appropriate to celebrate with him as his invited guests. We will send a White House reporting team to the event and report on it if news warrants."
