Former Rep. Weiner Is Polling, but Won't Say for What

By    |   Monday, 18 March 2013 01:10 PM EDT

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner may be getting ready to declare another run for office, despite the scandal that forced him to resign from Congress in 2011 after he sent sexually suggestive pictures to young women.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the New York City Democrat's mayoral campaign has spent $100,000 on polling and research so far in March. The information was contained in a report filed Friday with New York City election officials.

Weiner was getting ready for a mayoral run when he resigned from Congress. His campaign fund still holds $4.3 million, the Journal reported.

But when asked by the newspaper what he was up to, Weiner replied in an email, “Nothing to report beyond what I reported.”

There has also been talk that Weiner might run for city comptroller instead of mayor.

According to the New York Post, pollsters in January surveyed voters about a potential matchup in the comptroller race between Weiner and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, currently the only declared candidate in the race.
