The Senate must take time to read and understand its proposal to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act before voting on it, the editors of The Weekly Standard say.
"The leadership's plan, after the failure of repeal-and-replace and repeal-and-delay, is to bring a slimmed down or 'skinny' repeal bill to the floor," the editors, whose ranks include Bill Kristol, Fred Barnes and Christopher Caldwell, write in a column published Thursday.
"We offer no opinion on the 'skinny' bill because — like everyone else, including most Republican senators — we have no idea what's in it."
The editors add: "Senate Republicans still have an opportunity to execute some sane reforms— and time enough to read those reforms before they pass them."
