Radio Co-Host Calls Warren 'Original Rachel Dolezal'

Radio Co-Host Calls Warren 'Original Rachel Dolezal'
Elizabeth Warren

A co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club” nailed Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., on Friday about her past claims of a Native American heritage, telling her “You’re kind of like the original Rachel Dolezal.”

In an awkward exchange, Lenard McKelvey — professionally known as Charlamagne tha God — pressed the Democratic presidential contender as she defended her initial belief that she had a Native American heritage.

"I can't go back,” she said. “I grew up in Oklahoma. I learned about my family the same way most people learn about their families: from my mom, my dad, my aunts and my uncles.”

"It's what I believed,” she said. “But I'm not a person of color. I'm not a citizen of a tribe. And I shouldn't have done it. I can't go back, but what I can do is try to be a good partner. That's what I do everyday."

“Were there any benefits to that?” Charlamagne asked her at one point.

“No, the Boston Globe did a full investigation,” Warren insisted. “Nothing about my family every affected any job I ever got.”

“You’re kind of like the original Rachel Dolezal, a little bit,” he responded. “Rachel Dolezal was a white woman pretending to be black.”

Dolezal infamously posed as black to become president of the Spokane, Wash., chapter of the NAACP but resigned when it was revealed in 2015 that she was born to white parents.

Warren first claimed to have Native American ancestry in 2012 and in October last year doubled down on her claims by releasing a DNA test that found “strong evidence” of a Native ancestor.

She was forced to apologize in February when leaders of the Cherokee Nation said the DNA test was “inappropriate and wrong.”
