Fifty-three percent of voters disapprove of the way President Donald Trump has handled tensions between the U.S. and North Korea, according to a new survey by the Harvard-Harris Poll.
The poll results were provided to The Hill.
Here are the highlights:
- 50 say Trump's "fire and fury" comments are not helpful.
- 90 percent believe the U.S. needs to block North Korea from having nuclear weapons.
- 86 percent believe Kim Jong Un is planning to use his weapons against the U.S. or sell them to another regime.
- 54 percent approve of former President Barack Obama's handling of the North Korea threat.
The poll also found that 62 percent of voters said the nation should continue its policy of strategic patience in dealing with North Korea, compared to 38 percent who believe the U.S. should take a more active role
"The public is united that they do not want North Korea to obtain nuclear weapons and believe they would use them, but at the same time is fearful of military strikes against the regime," Harvard-Harris co-director Mark Penn told the Hill.
The online survey, conducted Aug. 17-22, surveyed 2,263 registered voters.
