Virginia Governor's Race Neck and Neck

There will be no rest for Ken Cuccinelli and Terry McAuliffe in the race for Virginia governor. The two candidates are running neck and neck.

McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman, has the support of 43 percent of registered voters, according to a new NBC News/Marist poll.

Cuccinelli, the state's Republican attorney general, trails by just two points with 41 percent, the poll finds. Another 16 percent say they are undecided so far.

And with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent, that means the candidates are virtually tied, with some six months to go before the election.

However, Cuccinelli appears to have a slight advantage, the poll notes.

That's because 53 percent of Cuccinelli's supporters strongly back him, compared with 47 percent who feel similarly about McAuliffe.

The results of the new poll dramatically differ from a Washington Post poll earlier this week which determined that Cuccinelli led McAuliffe by a full 5 percent.
