President Donald Trump on Saturday assured Ethiopia the United States would deliver on a commitment to send ventilators around the world to stem the coronavirus health crisis.
In a tweet, the president said he had just spoken with the nation's prime minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali:
"His Country needs Ventilators, and the U.S. is in good position to help him. We will!"
He added in a follow-up post:
"It is a wonderful feeling to know that our States are loaded up with Ventilators, many brand new and high quality just off of our production lines, and that we are now in a position to help other countries that so desperately need them. Every person needing a Ventilator got one!"
Trump has promised his administration would send ventilators to Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, and Indonesia, The Hill reported — and bragged earlier in the week the United States was "king of ventilators."
Over 2.8 million people worldwide have been infected with the coronavirus, and nearly 200,000 people have been died with COVID-19.
