President Donald Trump’s appointee to the U.S. foreign aid agency previously denounced “liberal democracy” and “the tyrannical LGBT agenda,” according to a report from ProPublica.
“Liberal democracy is little more than a front for the war being waged against us by those who fundamentally despise not only our way of life, but life itself,” Merritt Corrigan, the deputy White House liaison at the U.S. Agency for International Development, wrote in one online post.
She also tweeted: “our homo-empire couldn’t tolerate even one commercial enterprise not in full submission to the tyrannical LGBT agenda.”
In an opinion piece for The Conservative Woman last year, Corrigan wrote that “the false song of feminism” goes against “real womanhood,” and that women should “return to the home, where we rightfully belong.”
Pooja Jhunjhunwala, a spokesperson for USAID, told ProPublica that the organization has a “zero-tolerance policy of any form of discrimination or harassment based on gender, race, sexual orientation, religion or any other possible distinguishing characteristic that can define any of us.”
She added, “All employees are held to the highest of standards and are expected to treat one another with dignity and respect. Period. This includes political appointees, civil servants, foreign service officers and contractors.”
Corrigan did not respond to ProPublica’s requests for comment.
