A Senate Republican candidate is calling on President Donald Trump to hold a national military parade in Missouri.
Trump has asked the Pentagon to draw up proposals for a military parade, which would likely take place in Washington, D.C. He got the idea for the event after watching France's military parade on Bastille Day last year.
Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, who is running in his state's Senate election in a bid to unseat Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill, tweeted his parade thoughts Monday:
Trump's parade idea has received a tepid reception among most lawmakers. Democrats said it would be a waste of money, while some Republicans would only say that Trump has the final decision on the matter.
Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser's office said the local government won't pay for the parade if it happens.
