A White House official told Axios that the John "Kelly cover-up is unraveling right before our eyes" over the Rob Porter scandal.
The leash appears to be tightening around Kelly's neck after FBI Director Christopher Wray on Tuesday testified that the agency delivered damning findings about Porter, former staff secretary and alleged wife-beater, first in March of 2017 and then more conclusively in July.
Kelly, White House chief of staff, has been saying he didn't find out about the allegations against Porter until last week when the Daily Mail published the accounts of Porter's ex-wives, Colbie Holderness and Jennie Willoughby, both of whom laid out a pattern of abuse against him.
"Wray's FBI timeline makes one thing clear: the Kelly cover-up is unraveling right before our eyes," a White House official told Axios.
Even Porter threw Kelly under the bus, refuting Kelly's account that he had somehow misled him about what would be in the story while denying the more serious aspects of his ex-wives' accusations, Axios reports.
Porter resigned last week.
