Candidates Confident in Undecided Conn. Gov. Race

Wednesday, 03 November 2010 07:06 AM EDT

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Uncounted votes in some of Connecticut's largest cities mean the state's gubernatorial candidates are still waiting to find out who's victorious.

Republican Tom Foley had a narrow lead over Democrat Dan Malloy (muh-LOY') early Wednesday. But votes were still being compiled in Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven and Stamford. Those are all cities of more than 100,000 people where Malloy was expected to do well.

Foley is a Greenwich businessman, and Malloy the former Stamford mayor. Both addressed supporters after midnight and urged cautious optimism.

Malloy has painted Foley as a greedy and uncaring businessman. Foley has portrayed Malloy as a bad mayor cozy with labor unions.

Recent polls showed the race too close to call.
