JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A clearer picture of the still-undecided Alaska Senate race may emerge Monday, with the counting of thousands of absentee votes.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski continues to hold 89 percent of the undisputed write-in vote, as the process of hand counting those ballots enters its sixth day. She has 80,340 undisputed votes. There's nearly 7,200 more votes for her, but those have challenged by observers for rival Joe Miller for things like misspellings.
Miller has 87,527 votes, including 10 write-in votes.
Absentee votes being tallied Monday represent the last big batch of outstanding ballots from the Nov. 2 election. The campaigns hope those will provide an indication of where the race is headed — whether a candidate is on track to declare victory or the race winds up in court.
