Democrat: Alaska Sen. Murkowski Could Play Spoiler

Tuesday, 19 October 2010 10:24 PM EDT

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Democrat Scott McAdams says he's the "safe" choice for voters torn between him and U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

He worries Murkowski, who is running as a Republican write-in candidate, could play spoiler and get Republican Joe Miller elected in the Alaska Senate race.

McAdams wants Alaskans to vote their values. But he says if they're being strategic — and can live with either him or Murkowski being elected — they should take the safe route and go with him because his name is already on the ballot.

McAdams estimates Murkowski will need 7,000 to 10,000 additional votes to overcome any challenged or disqualified ballots. And he says there's too much at stake for Alaskans to gamble with their vote.
