President Donald Trump indicated Monday he supports term limits for members of Congress.
In a tweet, Trump said he recently met with freshman lawmakers who would like to see term limits imposed on those who work in the House and Senate chambers.
Trump has talked about his support for term limits in the past. At a campaign rally less than a month before the 2016 presidential election, he promised to pursue legislation that would force term limits on lawmakers.
"If I'm elected president, I will push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress," Trump said.
"They've been talking about that for years. Decades of failure in Washington and decades of special interest dealing must and will come to an end."
A poll earlier this year found 82 percent of voters are in favor of congressional term limits.
