President Donald Trump, in a pair of tweets, Wednesday quoted Fox News' Tucker Carlson's accusation that "the Obama people" spied on a rival presidential campaign.
“The Obama people did something that’s never been done...They spied on a rival presidential campaign," Trump said. "Would it be OK if Trump did it next? I am losing faith that our system is on the level. I’m beginning to think it is rotten & corrupt. Scary stuff Obama did.” @TuckerCarlson DOJ
A few minutes later, the president quoted Carlson again, tweeting: “Hillary Clinton and the DNC paid for information from the Russian government to use against her government - there’s no doubt about that!” @TuckerCarlson
During his Fox News program Tuesday night, Carlson challenged Clinton's former adviser, Richard Goodstein, telling him that the left has no problem "with the fact that the last administration (Obama) spied on its political opponents," Fox News reported.
He added that "all the civil libertarians have left [the Democratic Party]."
Goodstein retorted that Carlson was insulting his audience with his accusations, and said ex-Trump aide Carter Page was an "agent of the Soviets" who was rightly surveilled by U.S. intelligence agencies.
Carlson pointed out, though, that nobody in Trump's campaign has been charged with espionage, Page has not been convicted, and asked Goodstein if he would be "OK with the Trump administration authorizing a wiretap... of aides to the leading Democratic candidate [in 2020]?"
