President Donald Trump tweeted a New York Post story accusing the paper of "dishonesty," from both his personal and presidential accounts.
The Post's John Crudele writes that The New York Times reported in January that "American law enforcement and intelligence agencies are examining intercepted communications and financial transactions as part of a broad investigation into possible links between Russian officials and associates of President-elect Donald J. Trump."
When Trump made his later claim that his predecessor had Trump Tower's "wires tapped," the Times "never mentioned its Jan. 20 story in any of its main coverage of Trump's accusations," according to Crudele.
"If the paper was really trying to be honest, it would have admitted that its own independent sources — and four reporters — had already verified something like what Trump had alleged."
