President Donald Trump will meet with congressional Republican leaders to discuss the upcoming midterm elections at Camp David on Friday, Politico reports.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., will separately brief President Donald Trump, according to unnamed sources with knowledge of the plans.
Some Cabinet officials also will attend the meeting.
Reuters reports that Trump and McConnell hope to lead with infrastructure, but that Ryan would prefer to discuss welfare and other entitlement programs first.
A White House official told the news agency that the GOP leaders plan to discuss the timing of legislation, and the need to put substantive issues at the forefront before the 2018 elections in November, when all 435 House members and one-third of the Senate's will face re-election.
"People forget President Trump is a builder," a former Trump administration official, one-time senior communications adviser Jason Miller, told USA Today. "Infrastructure is an important next step in investing in our country."
