President Donald Trump wants his staff members to stop slamming Michael Flynn to the media, in a reaction to White House staffers feeding reporters negative comments about the commander in chief's former national security adviser, Axios reports.
A source familiar with Trump's thinking said the president has not authorized his staff to make the comments about Flynn, Axios noted.
Trump has defended Flynn, saying he did not commit wrongdoing by conversing with a Russian ambassador. The retired general resigned in February amid reports that he misled the administration over those conversations, according to CNN.
Trump took to Twitter Monday morning to slam the media, saying "the Fake News seldom likes" discussing Flynn having been cleared by the Obama administration when he delivered a paid speech in Russia in 2015.
The Axios source also noted that Trump was displeased with a Sunday report that said factions within the White House all agree about their distrust for Flynn.
