President Donald Trump's super PAC is preparing for a $100 million campaign to help Trump-supporting candidates in the midterm elections, Politico reports.
American First Action will host an upcoming fundraiser with Vice President Mike Pence, and possibly Trump himself, and has recruited oil and gas billionaire and Trump-ally Harold Hamm as a major donor. The PAC is allied with America First Policies, which is preparing for an ad campaign to support tax reform.
"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pass strong, bold tax reform for the American people," America First president Brian O. Walsh said in a statement. "Failure is not an option and America First is committed to mobilizing grassroots supporters behind President Trump's commitment to the middle class."
Last week, America First officials met with donors at a Texas ranch owned by oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens. There, Walsh outlined the group's plans and told donors that America First and another nonprofit have raised $25 million together.
Also in attendance was Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., who announced that he would donate to America First and said, "this is the only group that I'm giving to."
Even with an influx of cash, America First still faces stiff competition from former White House strategist Steve Bannon, who since his firing has been traveling the country raising money for congressional candidates to challenge Republican incumbents.
The PACs supported opposing candidates in the Alabama Senate race, with America First backing incumbent Luther Strange, while Great America supported the eventual winner, Roy Moore.
