Donald Trump is increasing his focus on using the web to get his message across, including fundraising through email, and a website that blasts Hillary Clinton, according to The Hill.

"I think the early signs we've seen, from them activating a small dollar online plan coupled with the rollout of the microsite, tells me that the Donald Trump campaign is getting its footing," political consultant Michael Duncan said.

The likely Republican presidential nominee's campaign is making his case against Clinton using the website LyingCrookedHillary.com.

Trump's most frequently used online campaign tool is his Twitter account, which has more than 9 million followers. The Hill reports that Trump announced he was beginning an email fundraising campaign by saying, "This is the first fundraising email I have ever sent on behalf of my campaign. The FIRST ONE."

A political consultant praised Trump's success at social media. "People yearn for Trump content," Vincent Harris, who worked for Rand Paul's presidential campaign, said in The Hill report.

Harris believes Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, needs to catch up to Trump.

"Hillary might have more digital staff right now, but she needs them to compete with Trump's complete owning of the medium," Harris said, reports The Hill.

Trump's first fundraising email had a staggering 60 percent spam rate. The campaign had initially used DonaldTrump.com during the primary season and in the email campaign soliciting donations, they used DonaldJTrump.com. The spam filters didn't recognize the new domain, sending the emails to spam.

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said the campaign raised $6.7 million over a couple of days, and "only a portion" of that was through email marketing. The Daily Beast questioned the accuracy of that number.
