President Donald Trump has nominated Rebecca Slaughter, an aide to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for a seat on the Federal Trade Commission, The Hill reports.
Slaughter has been a legal adviser for Schumer since 2009 and is the second Democrat who Trump has nominated to the commission.
"Rebecca Kelly Slaughter will make an excellent FTC commissioner and I'm proud to have recommended her to the White House," Schumer said. "Throughout her time in public service she has worked tirelessly and effectively. I'm confident that following her confirmation, those qualities will make her a tremendous addition to the commission."
The FTC is an independent agency headed by a chairman and four commissioners. A maximum of three commissioners can come from any one political party.
If the full slate of commission nominees is confirmed, Republicans would hold a 3-2 edge on the panel, according to the Hill.
