The Trump administration has reached a breakthrough in talks with Mexico over the North American Free Trade Agreement, Politico is reporting.
Officials are planning to formally announce the NAFTA deal on Thursday, according to the website. American and Mexican officials have been meeting for weeks and have reached a handshake agreement.
The deal would clear the way for Canada to rejoin talks to modernize the pact. And officials said the announcement is expected to include when Canadian officials will return to Washington to resume discussions.
Officials cautioned the planned announcement could be delayed past Thursday, depending on the outcome of talks on Wednesday between the U.S. and Mexico, Politico reported.
Trump has said he wanted the 1994 pact reworked to bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.
